A visit to Musical Affairs and Pel Audio
With the exception of the CD-transport, this system reflects Hans´ and Cees´ current status in knowledge about building an audio system for reproducing recorded music on CD. The off-the-shelve CD-transports match the soundpreference of both Hans and Cees. The components are carefully matched for tonal balance and musicality, technical measurements are subordinate to auditive perception. Reference used is live classical music with the aim to get as close as possible to the speed and attack in these Live performances doing justice to tonal balance as well.
It is my subjective opinion that Hans and Cees very much succeeded in doing just that..
This system has incredible speed and attack. When music is played, the speakers disappear: It is not possible to point out
where they are situated in the room (eyes closed, ofcourse). Sounds seem to come out of nothing from a very wide and
deep soundstage. No matter how loud music is played, NEVER harsh highs or sloppy lows were observed. Tonal correctnes
is very, very good. Instruments ARE tangible and it is easy to recognize different instruments
by their sound character. Maybe at the very low-end some bass is lacking which seems logical due to the relative small size
of the Open Baffles in the 40m2 listening room. However the bass that is present is of very good quality.
There also is an incredible amount of micro-detail which emphasizes each voice and instrument.
Voices and instruments have the right proportions as well, from a big organ in a church to a intimate played guitar.
So, YES, I am very enthousiastic about this unique audio system.. Chapeau for Cees and Hans!
